Category: Website Hosting

I dont usually recommend a hosting company as it has come back to bite me in the ass, least in the past. I really hate moving my sites and sure dont do it any more than I need to. There’s always something I foget to upload or files to change, ect. But there comes a time when you have no choice. I recently had a problem with my sites and seems support was just giving me the run around. I also found out their phone number was now only a recording, could not even get to a live person, gee is’nt that nice. Long story short, was time for a change.

I had been looking at ATCI Hosting for some time, even had Chris on ICQ to ask some questions. Searching the boards and the net I could not find anything bad about the company. I have to say it was so nice to have some one on live support. Durning the whole process of moving (I had ALOT to move), I never had to wait long for support, most times it was instant. Dont get any better than that. They also have e-mail and toll free phone support. So for now i highly recommend STCI Hosting

It just amazes me how many people I see, mostly newbies, talk about what a great deal a certian host is. When ever some one asks for a host recommendation, there are always those that chine in saying such and such host gives you 1,000 gigs for $9.95 a month. For the last time, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!

Some webmasters dont stop and think just how important hosting is to their business. It does’nt matter how good the deal is, if your sites do not work, you dont make any money! Granted, some of those posts are made just to try and collect refereral money, but you might be surprized how many fall for it.

To make money in this business you need to gain surfer traffic and sell them, it’s a no brainer. To sell them your website must be working at all times, it’s a 24/7 business. Hosting is like anything else, you often get what you pay for.

When looking for a new host, ask for recommendations from those that have been in the business for some time. Check the boards for recommendations, just make sure they are qualified, as I said, some are just loking to make referer money. Most all webmaster message boards have a search feature, use it! Search for good or bad about the host your looking at. As with any thing else use the search engines to find the scoop on the company. This might all seem like common sense to most, but it’s surprizing how many do not reasearch a company they are thinking about doing business with. Often they find out when it’s too late.

A big tip: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, let your host register domain names for you. If you have a falling out with your host, you might have a hard time getting your domain name in your name, without your domain name, your “site” is history.

Point is, with any good host, you can move up as your sites grow. There are many places you can get a great host for around $20 a month and move up as you make more money. If you dont want to spend $20, you need to go get a job.
