I dont usually recommend a hosting company as it has come back to bite me in the ass, least in the past. I really hate moving my sites and sure dont do it any more than I need to. There’s always something I foget to upload or files to change, ect. But there comes a time when you have no choice. I recently had a problem with my sites and seems support was just giving me the run around. I also found out their phone number was now only a recording, could not even get to a live person, gee is’nt that nice. Long story short, was time for a change.

I had been looking at ATCI Hosting for some time, even had Chris on ICQ to ask some questions. Searching the boards and the net I could not find anything bad about the company. I have to say it was so nice to have some one on live support. Durning the whole process of moving (I had ALOT to move), I never had to wait long for support, most times it was instant. Dont get any better than that. They also have e-mail and toll free phone support. So for now i highly recommend STCI Hosting

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last month or two, or you do not own an adult site, you might have heard or seen with your own eyes what was thought to be a major dance by search giant google. It appears to have only affected adult related websites, as far as we know. Many porn destinations losing a good portion of their golden google traffic over night, without much of hint of any coming back over time. It looks as though searches that in the past showed adult results, now list trusted non-adult sites first.

Of course there are many theories from google getting greedy (have’nt figured that one out yet), to google being more family friendly. There is nothing wrong with being more family friendly, but with the fact that they already have a safe search setting, that does’nt totally make sense.

I wonder if it is just another way for google to provide relevant results to the surfer. Lets face it, google does’nt care if we get their traffic or how much we get, their end goal is and always will be, serving up the best results to the surfer. Is that not how they got to the place they are in the first place? If you stop to think about it, surfers searching for “lesbian”, are not all looking for porn. But many people have noted that refined or more defined searches are bringing up the right porn results. It “seems” the surfer needs to convince google they are looking for porn before they are served up porn related results.

If this theory is true, it’s sounds like it is to some extent, there could be some good news for porn slingers, it could mean more targeted porn traffic? Maybe we could even see better ratios? So far this month, my sales are not that far off and it’s not just rebills holding sales up, so might be okay.

I recieved an e-amil from a sponsor the other day, I wont say the name. It was the usual, we added all these new tools for you, our webmaster to make loads more money. The first “tool” was 468×80 banners, they even stated “New Banner Size!”. That and talk about sponsors on another board got me to thinking, I do that from time to time. What is so new about 468×80 sized banners? Is it because they are 400 and 68 in size. Are there still webmasters out there that do not realize this size banner in general has not pulled crap for clicks in years? Granted there are exceptions, but with that size it’s far and few between. Show me your stats to prove me otherwise.

I guess it’s a rant because sponsors seem to keep giving us tools that are not worth much, some times even worthless. Where’s tracking stats that will tell me where every one of my sales comes from? Where are sponsor blogs with lots of tasty text to tempt, tease and sell the surfer? Blogs are not exactly something new. How about rss feeds we could use to pre-sell the surfer before sending them off. Of course the list is endless. So why waste your time and ours with ads that don’t pull and have’nt for a long time?

Maybe I should’nt be so hard, many sponsors do provide tools that help us to be more productive and sell more. Now if we could just weed out the crap..:)

It just amazes me how many people I see, mostly newbies, talk about what a great deal a certian host is. When ever some one asks for a host recommendation, there are always those that chine in saying such and such host gives you 1,000 gigs for $9.95 a month. For the last time, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!

Some webmasters dont stop and think just how important hosting is to their business. It does’nt matter how good the deal is, if your sites do not work, you dont make any money! Granted, some of those posts are made just to try and collect refereral money, but you might be surprized how many fall for it.

To make money in this business you need to gain surfer traffic and sell them, it’s a no brainer. To sell them your website must be working at all times, it’s a 24/7 business. Hosting is like anything else, you often get what you pay for.

When looking for a new host, ask for recommendations from those that have been in the business for some time. Check the boards for recommendations, just make sure they are qualified, as I said, some are just loking to make referer money. Most all webmaster message boards have a search feature, use it! Search for good or bad about the host your looking at. As with any thing else use the search engines to find the scoop on the company. This might all seem like common sense to most, but it’s surprizing how many do not reasearch a company they are thinking about doing business with. Often they find out when it’s too late.

A big tip: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, let your host register domain names for you. If you have a falling out with your host, you might have a hard time getting your domain name in your name, without your domain name, your “site” is history.

Point is, with any good host, you can move up as your sites grow. There are many places you can get a great host for around $20 a month and move up as you make more money. If you dont want to spend $20, you need to go get a job.
