WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A 22-year-old man who was “not fully clothed” jumped the north fence into the White House grounds on Sunday and was immediately apprehended, the U.S. Secret Service said.

Justin Manuel Arrieta, of Cocoa Beach, Florida, was arrested for unlawful entry and taken for processing to the District of Columbia police department, Secret Service spokeswoman Kim Bruce said.

She said Arrieta was only on the grounds of the White House for a matter of seconds and there were no reports of injury. She declined to say what he was wearing.

ERIE, Pa. – A man ran naked through a school and set off a fire extinguisher, but no students were present at the time, police said. Police said they had surveillance footage of the man, who broke a window to enter and tampered with surveillance cameras. They also have fingerprints.

Central Tech custodian Mike Rossi said he confronted the man in a hallway about 6 a.m. Thursday after an alarm went off. The man had clothes in his hands and was in the school for 10 to 15 minutes before fleeing when security arrived.

He appeared to be an older teenager and police think he could have been a former student.

BEIJING, Dec 21 (Reuters Life!) – Police in central China have scotched a wine maker’s plans for a mass Christmas Eve “nude run” which the company said was a public interest event to discourage the use of “excessive packaging” in the industry.

Jixiang Ruyi Tobacco and Alcohol Company offered 284 people 10,000 yuan ($1,280) in cash and prizes to participate in a naked dash through Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, the People’s Daily reported on its Web site on Thursday.

The company’s advertisement called for “auspicious” men and women under the age of 30 with “healthy bodies” and “regular features” to apply.

“The goal of this streaking event is to raise consumer awareness and declare war on the excessive packaging of ‘baijiu’ through the language of the body,” the report quoted a manager surnamed Ma as saying.

“Baijiu” is a type of grain-based spirit popular in China, and often given as an elaborately packaged gift in the lead-up to Chinese New Year.

“The government has called for a sustainable society. Although there is no statute limiting packaging — and this action may seem a bit much — our focus is on the broad mass of consumers,” Ma said.

Over 1,700 people had applied in four days, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on its Web site, the overwhelming majority of them men.

“We have already invited experts from the beauty industry to conduct physical checks on the applicants. Their mental condition must also be sound. According to the tests, there are only 30 or so that qualify,” CCTV quoted a company official surnamed Cao, as saying.

Zhengzhou police rejected the company’s application for a permit to hold the run.

“Public commercial events … must meet moral standards,” CCTV quoted a police official as saying. “Such mass streakings do not.”

FORT PAYNE, Alabama – Gerald Lynn Kelley decided to protest the war in Iraq by walking along a highway in a cowboy hat and boots. Just a cowboy hat and boots.

He said he realizes he broke the law and does not encourage streaking, but he hopes the incident encourages people to speak out against the war. Kelley, 52, was charged with public lewdness in the July 30 incident.

“My dad told me years ago if you’ve got a stubborn mule, you’ve got to hit him across the head with a 2-by-4 in order to get his attention,” he said.

Kelley said he regrets a church event was occurring in a nearby park at the time of his protest. He said he marched in the opposite direction.

Deputy Mike James said deputies were sent to Hammondville after receiving calls about two men walking nude along U.S. 11. The other man could not be found.

Kelley, out of jail on a $1,500 bond, would not comment on anyone else’s involvement.

BATON ROUGE, La. – An LSU student has learned the cost of stripping naked and running across the field in Tiger Stadium during a football game: $1,624.75.

That’s what Bretton Somers was ordered to pay Monday after accepting a plea deal that allowed him to escape a felony rap.

Instead of having to face the charge of obscenity, Somers pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of disturbing the peace, resisting an officer and criminal trespass. State District Judge Richard Anderson ordered Somers to pay a $500 fine, $500 to the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office, $300 to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, $200 to the LSU Police Department and $124.75 in court costs.

Anderson also forbid Somers from attending any sporting events at LSU while on probation for a year.

Somers, 33, and his attorney Alex St. Amant declined comment after the hearing.

Prosecutor Tracey Barbera said Somers’ actions could not go unpunished.

“The important thing is that he accepted responsibility and he’s facing consequences for his actions,” Barbera said. “This kind of behavior will not be tolerated.”

According to a sheriff’s office affidavit, Somers ran onto the LSU field on Sept. 4, 2004 — a rainy night in Tiger Stadium where thousands of fans gathered for a football game against Oregon State.

Deputies said Somers was extremely intoxicated but Barbera said that does not excuse his actions. The affidavit said that Somers was already naked when he got onto the field in the northwest end of the football field. He then ran toward the middle of the football field and eluded several deputies and officers from LSU and Louisiana State Police.

Police estimated between 80,000 and 90,000 people were in the stadium when Somers ran across the field.

An obscenity charge carries a minimum sentence of six months in jail. First offenders face up to three years and a fine of up to $2,500.
