Taichung police orders fleshy 'betel nut beauties' to cover up. TAIPEI (AFP) - Taichung police has ordered the city's scantily-clad betel nut saleswomen to dress more conservatively to help reduce car accidents, it was reported. Under the new dress code, women peddling spicy chewing betel nuts at roadside stands are barred from revealing their bodies in sexy transparent clothes or soliciting business on the streets, the local TVBS station reported.
"Don't put on any dissipated poses such as dancing outside the sales booths," a policeman said while promoting the new dress code. Instead, he suggested several young saleswomen to don white navy tops, tight short pants and the same type of hats worn by singer Feng Fei-fei, a local diva in the 1980s.
Taichung police consider the so-called "betel nut beauties" a likely cause of traffic accidents in the central city as drivers are often diverted by saleswomen in flashy revealing clothes, the report said. A young sales girl told reporters the tighter dress code sounded reasonable. "But it's really not my business, it's my boss's problem," she shrugged. Betel nut beauties thrive in central and southern Taiwan. A Health Department study two years ago reported one-tenth of Taiwan's population regularly chew the indigenous nut, the seed of a palm tree, as a stimulant.
Californians Clean Up Beach in the Nude
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The weekend cleanup of a popular stretch of beach netted the usual garbage: clothing, beer bottles and rusty nails. What made the effort at Bonny Doon Beach different from cleanups elsewhere on the California coast were the volunteers: Many were nude. Members of the Bay Area Naturists club were among those who collected 600 pounds of garbage at one of Northern California's most popular clothing-optional beaches, seven miles north of Santa Cruz.
"The real purpose is not the nakedness, but clearing up the trash," said Jurek Zarzycki, 54, as he scanned for refuse in the buff. "Every piece of garbage we find out here is testimony to somebody being a sloppy jerk." His group has been helping clean trash from the beach for 17 years. The effort Saturday was part of the 20th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, during which volunteers removed 750,000 pounds of trash from 700 locations on the state's shorelines.
The nippy weekend weather — it was 60 degrees at Bonny Doons — persuaded some of the naturists to keep their clothes on. "Too cold," said Bill Todd, 64, a former San Mateo resident who flew out from his home in New York state on business and decided to join old friends in the naturist club. "You don't want the wind going where the wind shouldn't go."
LA porn industry stung by first condom fines
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The lucrative Los Angeles porn film industry is reeling from news that two production companies had been slapped with the first fines for allowing actors to perform without condoms.
California's state health and safety board fined Evasive Angles and TTB Productions $30,560 (17,057 pounds) each for making porn movies which it said exposed three actors to HIV (news - web sites) infections. It was the first time that the California Division of Occupational Health and Safety (Cal/OSHA) had taken regulatory action against the multibillion dollar adult film industry in Los Angeles, which employs some 6,000 people in 200 production companies turning out dozens of films and videos a week.
"This is a huge departure. This is really like dropping a bomb," said Sharon Mitchell, director of the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM) which runs a voluntary HIV-screening program for the industry. "I think the industry will contest this. These companies will be a test case," Mitchell said. Evasive Angles and TTB Productions could not be reached for comment.
The fines followed an HIV outbreak last April involving five actors who tested positive for the virus that causes AIDS (news - web sites). The nervous industry shut down voluntarily for a month while about 50 actors who had worked with those infected awaited test HIV test results.
Porn film producers have resisted compulsory condom rules saying they take the sizzle out of sex scenes and consumers do not want to watch safe sex. But Cal/OSHA said porn actors had the same legal right to a safe workplace as employees in more conventional businesses. Officials said action against other adult film companies could follow.
Business in what is dubbed "Porn Valley", in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, has flourished over the past decade fuelled by the Internet and home computers. Mitchell said that while supporting testing and voluntary programs to protect sex workers, she was concerned that heavy-handed regulation would push the industry underground. Porn actor Tony Tedeschi, who has worked in the industry for 15 years, commended OSHA's intervention although he said he did not insist on using condoms. "If I did, I wouldn't be able to work," Tedeschi told the Los Angeles Times.
BERLIN (Reuters) - A man caught having sex with a blow-up doll in a busy public shopping arcade had to be physically parted from his rubber lover and escorted away, police in Stuttgart say. The 38-year-old man was caught with his trousers down early on Monday evening after alarmed witnesses alerted the police. "It was real, he was caught in mid-action with the doll," said a press spokeswoman on Wednesday. Police said that they had considerable difficulty separating the drunken man from his partner.
Man Jailed for Allegedly Sucking Toes
(API) GREENSBURG, Pa. - A man sucked the toes or kissed the feet of two women and a girl in surprise assaults, police said. A 12-year-old told police that she was reading at the library when James M. Kilpatrick, 21, of Greensburg, started kissing her feet, then offered her 22-year-old sister a dollar to let him do the same to her. At a nearby park, one woman told police she dozed off while sunbathing and woke up to find Kilpatrick sucking her toes. Another woman had her toes sucked when she stopped to read a memorial plaque in the park, police said.
Kilpatrick remained jailed unable to post $10,000 bond Friday, a day after he waived his right to a preliminary hearing on indecent assault and other charges including stalking, corruption of minors and harassment.All the incidents occurred between July 3 and July 9. All the victims picked out Kilpatrick from a photo lineup, police said.
