German court crushes hopes of nude cyclists
KARLSRUHE, Germany (AFP) - A German court quashed the hopes of a group of naturists who wanted to cycle along the Rhine river wearing nothing more than a smile

Cycling in the nude, the Karlsruhe court ruled, is "highly inconvenient".

The group of 12 naturists were planning to cycle along the Rhine in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg on Saturday as part of what they were dubbing "World Nude Cycling Day".

The court upheld an earlier decision from the local authorities to ban the ride.

It said that cycling in the nude contravened the unwritten rules of public decency.

While there was widespread acceptance of naturism on beaches, nude cyclists could offend people who were not expecting to see them, the judges said.
Gee, would'nt want to offend any one, are there people who have never seen a naked body?

    Octogenarian Nabbed in Prostitution Ring
LINDENWOLD, N.J. - Police made a surprising discovery when they busted the alleged madam of a prostitution ring called "August Playmates": The woman running the show was an 80-year-old grandmother.

Authorities arrested Vera Tursi last month during a sting operation to crack down on prostitution rings posing as legal escort services. Police say Tursi ran the business from her two-bedroom apartment, taking $60 of every $160 she charged clients for one hour with a call girl.

Law enforcement officials say Tursi admitted her role in the business, saying she took it over a few years ago from her daughter, who had died. Police say Tursi told them she needed money to subsidize her Social Security checks.

Undercover police first began to wonder about the age of their suspect when they called the escort service as part of their sting operation. They said she seemed to have difficulty breathing.

"You get a feel for how old someone is when you talk to them," State Police Detective Sgt. Thomas Cornely told The Sunday Star-Ledger of Newark. "She sounded like an 80-year-old woman."

Although police arrested Tursi when they came to her apartment May 2, they decided not to bring her to the police barracks because of her poor health.

Tursi has been charged with a a single count of promoting prostitution. If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison. But because of her age and lack of a criminal record, she's more likely to receive probation, Cornely said.
I say good for here, hard to make a living these days, sounds like a cop did'nt get his freebie

U.S. city unveils sex solicitor billboards of shame
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - People who solicit prostitutes in Oakland, California, could find their faces plastered on billboards under a new shaming program that one civil rights group calls bad public policy.

The city of 400,000 across the bay from San Francisco started putting up billboards on Wednesday showing men arrested for soliciting sex. Other signs invite prostitutes to quit by calling a help line.

"This idea came out of just thinking about new ideas, doing something to deal with this increasing problem, especially with the exploitation of underage women," said Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, who champions the approach.

The photos on the billboards were partially blurred so the men are not easily identifiable. But in the future photos might be displayed unaltered, an aide to De La Fuente said.

Critics say the technique, which De La Fuente said has been used in Texas, recalls medieval public humiliations.

"It doesn't seem to us to be appropriate for Oakland to be using shaming as an additional and extrajudicial punishment to single out this group of offenders," said Alan Schlosser, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union for Northern California. "We don't think this is good public policy."

Some newspapers have long printed the names of those soliciting sex for money, and courts have backed punishments that include shaming. Last year a U.S. federal appeals court allowed a punishment in which a mail thief had to wear a signboard telling of his crime.
